Bagamoyo Sanitation Park
Improving health in communities.
The Bagamoyo Sanitation Park project, set up as an innovation window, was planned and implemented in Bagamoyo Township. The project’s main objective was to improve health in communities through the introduction of sustainable, affordable and appropriate excreta disposal technologies.
The sanitation park allowed community participation at all project stages (PHAST approach), e.g. through local artisans training, construction of demonstration toilets, and installation of toilets and improvement of existing toilets, thus ensuring sustainability.
Project activities included:
- Development of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials (training manuals, posters and user’s guides)
- Training on technical sanitation options for local artisans
- Design and construction of training/production center
- Construction of demonstration sanitation options
