Sanitation Training in Karagwe District

Sanitation training and empowerment for local artisans.

The major objective of the sanitation training was to empower local artisans and district officials in Karagwe district from the health and water department with sustainable sanitation management. This included the hygiene education and the improvement of skills for constructing latrine components, supporting the overall aim of improving the livelihood, environmental hygiene management and sanitation coverage in the district.

The training consisted of theoretical as well as practical sessions. Main training activities included:
- Training on production and installation of SanPlat slabs
- Dry bond pit lining using locally available materials
- Production and installation of hand washing facilities
- Establishment of sanitation centers
- Social marketing strategies
